Garden Blend

An environmentally sustainable blend that is lightweight, free-draining and easy to work with!  The make-up of this blend is composted bark fines, aged mushroom compost and river sand. A fantastic choice for vegetable and flower beds as well as amending your garden and lawn.

1/2 YARD$44.99  |  YARD $69.99 | also available as 30L bag in-store

Lawn & Turf Blend

Designed to be a well-draining media formulated for our wet west coast location. Start your new lawn (or amend your current lawn) with soil that has the correct balance of drainage and nutrient absorption ability. Also perfect for adding around your permanent perennials, trees and shrubs.

Composted Black Mulch

This is a basic aged, black, composted mulch that simply works! Made from fir fines and aged for at least 2 years to give you that dark rich soil. Add this mulch to your garden to loosen up the soil or top-dress your plants to suppress weeds.

1/2 YARD$44.99  |  YARD $69.99 | also available as 30L bag in-store

Fresh Fine Bark Mulch

A fir/hemlock bark mulch that has been screened to 3/4″, creating a useful mulch without all the larger pieces. We recommend a 3-4″ layer for a new garden and 1-2″ for top dressing existing bark mulch applications.

1/2 YARD $44.99  |  YARD $69.99 | also available as 30L bag in-store

Washed Sand

This sand is “washed” through a process that removes clay, silt, dust and other unwanted particles.  Once the excess materials have been removed, the sand is left to drain. Washed sand is ideal for rendering and mixing concrete and for making a less malleable mortar that is often used for flagstones.

1/2 YARD $54.99  |  YARD $99.99 | also available as 30L bag in-store

3/4″ Clear Crush Gravel

This is an excellent aggregate for landscaping driveways, parking areas, walkways and drainage projects. It packs well and contains no sand or fines. Clear crush has a low moisture retention rate and does not promote weed growth. Use landscape fabric underneath your gravel to help prevent weeds from coming through.

1/2 YARD $54.99  |  YARD $99.99 | also available as 30L bag in-store

3/4″-1″ Drain Rock

Clean rock that is decorative and functional. This high-quality stone can be used to create drainage or build a decorative accent such as a path or rock garden. Use landscape fabric to separate the ground from the gravel and help prevent weeds from coming through.

1/2 YARD $79.99  |  YARD $149.99 | also available as 30L bag in-store

2.5″-6″ River Rock

Large, smooth rocks used for decoration in the garden such as dry riverbeds, pathways or edging. Can also be used as course drainage for problem areas. Use landscape fabric underneath in order to stop weeds from coming through.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much can my pickup truck hold?

A full size 3⁄4 or 1 ton pickup can hold 2-3 cubic yards, slightly rounded, but weight must be considered. Most full-size pickups can handle 3 yards of mulch, 2 yards of compost or 1-1.5 yards of soil product depending on the size of the pickup truck bed. Never load more than what is reasonable or what your vehicle is specified to carry.

Weight by the yard

Gravel (1⁄4” – 2′′) :  2,800 – 3,400 lbs

Rock (2′′ – 6′′) :  3,000 – 3,400 lbs
Sand (wet) :  3,000 – 3,400lbs
Sand (Dry) :  2,600 – 3,000 lbs

How much material do I need?

How much material do I need? Check out this easy soil calculator over here.

To estimate the required cubic yardage required for mulch or compost, measure (in feet) the length and width of the areas to be covered. Multiply the length x width to get your square footage. Add up square footage for all areas and use the following formula:

For a thickness of:

1/2″ – divide the square footage by 660 = total yards
1″ – divide the square footage by 325 = total yards
2″ – divide the square footage by 162 = total yards

4” – divide the square footage by 81 = total yards
5” – divide the square footage by 65 = total yards
6” – divide the square footage by 54 = total yards

What product should I use for my garden?

For a new garden with no existing soil, such as a raised garden bed, we recommend using our Garden Blend which is made with free-draining river sand, aged mushroom compost, and black bark fines. For existing gardens, we recommend incorporating 2-3” of straight compost into the soil.

What time of year should I apply mulch?

The time of year depends on what you hope to achieve by mulching. If you are using mulch in your vegetable or flower garden, it is best to apply them after the soil has warmed up in the spring. Mulches used to moderate winter temperatures can be applied in late fall after the ground has frozen, but before the coldest temperatures arrive. Applying mulches before the ground freezes may attract rodents looking for a warm winter hideout.

Can compost be used to fill fence post holes in place of black dirt?

No – Compost continues to decompose over time and is not recommended for use as fill in these types of projects.

Can I use compost for my potted plants?

Yes, compost provides nutrients and provides an excellent medium for root growth. Mix 50/50 with potting soil that has a high content of peat.

Can I put compost on my grass?

Yes, compost can be used on your lawn to add plant nutrients and improve soil structure. Apply 1⁄4 to 1⁄2 “ thick and allow the rain to water in.
