The season begins when the packed boxes of ornaments, decor, and childhood heirlooms comes down from the attic or out of the garage—and the first piece of Christmas appears! A bit of glitter and a favourite holiday ornament is carefully unwrapped, ready to display. Memories have been carefully stowed away in boxes all year and now spread out through the home as another Christmas begins.
Christmas villages take years to complete, with new additions added each holiday. From detailed Dicken's villages to these simple light-up ceramic houses, we all celebrate home towns and home-for-the-holidays vibes for the season.
Getting ready for darker evenings and longer nights, we set up tall candles to warm our rooms with flickering light as we gather with family and friends.
Each ornament on the tree can hold a special meaning—from the childhood popsicle stick reindeer, to the more grown-up decorations we carefully pick out each season.
Growing the Holidays
You may not be able to pack them away at the end of Christmas, but live plants and trees mixed in with your holiday decor add a lively touch. Christmas pots can be emptied and reused next year as well.
At the end of the season, plant the trees or outdoor shrubs in the yard and keep those Christmas memories alive all year long.
A Warm Glow
Strings of lights are one thing that isn't always pleasurable to unbox. Forego the tangles with pre-lit trees. And if the lights of yesteryear just aren't cooperating, then pick up a new set to shine for the season. You want to make sure that all your favourite decorations can be seen in the holiday evenings and on Christmas morning!
