How to Care for Your Monstera Plant

How to Care for your Monstera Plant

Keep your monstera happy with a few tips from the experts! These popular plants have showy, huge leaves that split as they get older (between 2-3 years old) into gorgeous shapes. Their dark green color is lush and turns any room into a jungle. Check out our easy care tips below:

How much light does my monstera plant need?

#1 - Lighting! Give your monstera medium to bright light to really help it grow to full size. It prefers an East or West window, though you can use a South window if you have a light curtain or other sun block—monstera do not like direct rays as they just get too hot and can scorch the leaves.

How much water does my monster plant need?

#2 - Watering - Like most houseplants, the monster likes to dry out between waterings. You can give it a big drink every 1-2 weeks, depending on the temperature and conditions in your home. Water your plant until you see water come out the bottom of the pot, ensuring the soil is totally soaked. (Your tropical pots should always have drainage holes.)

Other Tips for a monster plant?

#3 - Humidity - Go ahead and mist your monstera daily!

#4 - Soil - A well-draining potting soil is best, one that will retain moisture but also allow aeration for the roots.

#5 - Fertilizer - Use a balanced, indoor plant fertilizer once a month on your monstera to ensure it is getting all the nutrients it needs.

#6 - Pruning - Cut gangly or yellowing leaves a the base of their stem. You can secure your tall plant to a pole in order to tame the long stems that grow. Make sure your tools are clean and sharp.
